Our Cusco on foot and Machu Picchu Holidays is not a traditional trip itinerary. It allows travelers to visit some important sites of the Inca civilization on foot. You will travel around Cusco, then explore the fascinating Sacred Valley. Ending at the legendary lost city of the Incas “Machu Picchu”. very famed and number one archaeological site in South America.
For the Inca society Cusco was the most important city in South America. The center of the four regions called Tahuantinsuyo. The Incas themselves they considered as the “Navel of the World” or the center of the world. Cusco had the most important palaces and religious temples of this great civilization in South America.
In the present day Cusco shows you spectacular colonial buildings and formidable Inca architecture. In the down-town of the city, many streets are lined up with perfect Inca stonework. Which served as foundation for the most of Spanish constructions built in the XVI and XVII centuries. Machu Picchu holidays enables you to visit all those fantastic places and more.
Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by our representative at the airport of Cusco and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free so you can rest and acclimate to the altitude.
In the afternoon, enjoy a walking tour in the downtown of the city. You have chance to explore the living example of the mixture of Andean and Spanish cultures. We will walk around the Main Square to see the Catholic Churches. Also some of the beautiful Inca streets. The biggest local market in the city (optional to enter in Qoricancha).
In the morning at the convenient time, we will pick you up from the hotel in a private car. It takes approximately 20 minutes to drive to Tambomachay (the water ceremonial fountain). We will visit this wonderful site and continue on to Puca Pucara, Q’enqo and Sacsayhuaman, the biggest Incan site around Cusco. We arrive back in the city and visit the famous Inca museum.
After the pick up from the hotel, you will be transported in a private vehicle to Taucca, a community located at 3700 masl. On route, we will pass Piuray Lake which supplies drinkable water to Cusco city. We will pass a few more small villages, Umasbamba and Cuper Bajo before the start of our hike to Huchuy Qosqo.
Once we start hiking, we will follow a small valley upward for almost 3 hours to reach the highest point. We then start descending for 2 hours to Huchuy Qosqo. Located above the Sacred Valley at 3,450 mals. On the way down, you can see some beautiful mountains as: Chicon, Qolque cruz and Veronica.
The sacred mountains are called “Apus” which are the spirit of the mountains. They have been respected and revered by the local Quechua descendants for many centuries. When we arrive to Huchuy Qosqo, there will be time to rest, relax and eat our delicious box lunch, with breathtaking views. You will explore this amazing site with your guide, who will explain you all the history of this charming place.
We will start descending to the town of Lamay in the Sacred Valley and drive for 1 hour to the quaint town of Ollantaytambo. We will enjoy dinner together and board the train as we travel for 2 hours toward Aguas Calientes. (the closes town to Machu Picchu). Our guide will lead you to the hotel located only few minutes from train station.
In the morning we will board the bus. It will take us to the main entrance of Machu Picchu. Our expert tour guide will teach us all the history of this wonderful place. You will visit Sun Temple, Royal Palace, Main Temple, Three Windows Temple and Sun Dial. It will be an unforgettable experience and highlight of your trip. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore the area on your own.
At the scheduled time, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and then return to Cusco.
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the airport in Cusco. End of Machu Picchu holidays.
