Is very well known that most of the trekking activities in the Andes are taking place in the dry season. Specially the Lares Trek is hiked during the winter time (May-September). But this is the busiest time for trekking in the whole region, particularly on the Classic Inca Trail. Where trekking permits are sold-out many months in advance. Lares trek to Machu Picchu is usually available any time of the year. But rainy season is not definitely the best time to be hiking on the mountains in the Peruvian Andes. We suggest travelers to check out the weather conditions before to go trekking in Lares Valley (December – March).
The Lares Trail is the third most popular route to Machu Picchu. After the Classic Inca Trail hike and Salkantay trek. So during the height of the peak season this trail can be busier. That being said, there are so many trekking options on the Lares Trail that in general the routes never feel over-crowded.
Best hiking time
During the shoulder months of dry season (April and October). The Lares Trails are particularly quiet, and weather is often very pleasant. November is touch and good in terms of trekking and the possibilities of encountering rain is relatively low. We suggest you to avoid from December to March as rain makes the trail really unpleasant and visibility is often low due to heavy morning and late afternoon fog. check weather conditions
Temperatures throughout the year are moderate, in the high twenties (Celsius) during the afternoon, and cool to cold at night and in the early morning. Layered clothing is important (see packing list below).
Micro-climates characterize the Andes. So rain throughout the year is possible. Always we suggest you taking a good rain gear and a good hiking shoes. For more info see our link of: Lares trek packing List
