Definitely the most fascinating day hike in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of 4700 m/ 14500 ft.
The area of Salkantay shows you one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Peruvian Andes. This great glacier lake is not very touristy place yet. So is only visited by some of the adventurous people going on expeditions around Salkantay. Due to it is high elevation hikers need to be in a good physical condition or you should have a good acclimatization to the altitude. It easily can be combined with other multi-day treks as the Ancascocha trek.
After to leave the hotel in Cusco, there will be a very scenic drive to Limatambo Valley. Then you will go up following a dirt road to get to the community of Qoyllor. Here is where you need to have a breakfast prepared by our expert chef. After a short break you will go much higher up to the end of the road. Then you start hiking to Salkantay Lake following a picturesque trail opened by the villagers, as you go around the first hill amazing views of tall Mountains will show up. Also you will be able to observe nice Andean valleys and beautiful rock formations.
Some hours of up-hill hike will let you to arrive at this exceptional destination in Cusco “Salkantay Lake”. Due to its close proximity to Mt Salkantay, this is just a spectacular place, you will be very close to the ice-glacier of Salkantay while enjoying the fantastic views of this fascinating Lake. You will also see the famous pass called Inkachiriaska, the highest point for the Inca Trail expedition hikers. After you have a great moment around this sacred Lake and Mt Salkantay itself. You will start hiking back to the trail-head for a few hours. Having a very good lunch provided by our cook close by Qoyllor community, the driver will get you back to Cusco city.
