Moray day hike & Salt mines tour is a wonderful hike, is the ideal day trip for those wanting to explore the magical sites, as the amazing Inca experimental center called Moray and the salt mine. You will have a lovely day walking outside of the Sacred Valley with great views of Vilcanota mountain range. Moray is a very outstanding archaeological site, situated on a nice mountain slope. Approx. 50 km (31 miles) away from Cusco city at an elevation of 3,500 m (11,400 ft.) above sea level.
The trails around Moray were fuctioning since many centuries ago to connect Moray – Salt mines with Urubamba Valley and in the present day travelers use it to go on a day hike. It is the best way to visit Moray Inca site, Maras the picturesque colonial town and Salt mine walking on the great ancient trails. To the end of Moray hike travelers can continue to Machu Picchu, or come back to Cusco.
To start the Moray day hike & Salt mines tour. We’ll pick you up from the Hotel in our private transportation. After 40 minutes of travelling with direction to the Sacred Valley, we will arrive to the farming area of Chinchero full of potatoes fields & cereals (optional to stop here to see the locals weaving centers), enjoying the scenic view of the area we will continue our drive to the town of Maras. Which has typical colonial houses with its out-standing Spanish door arches unique around Cusco. A little while after we will arrive to the Inca ruins of Moray called “the Inca laboratory”. The guide will explain us all the history of this wonderful place, we will explore around (walking).
We leave Moray and then start our gentle hike towards Maras town, passing by many farming fields the trail lead us to the salt pans of Salineras. Where visitors can still observe the fascinating salt mine own by the locals, with more than 3000 pools in production, since pre-Inca times. Finally we will walk down to Urubamba for lunch. In the afternoon our Transfer will take us back to Cusco or you can connect to Aguas Calientes.
