Recommended list to pack for a Trek

This is the ideal and standard recommended list of items to pack for any of our trekking tours. As: Inca Trail, Salkantay, Lares, Ancascocha, Choquequirao, Inca Quarry, Huchuy Qosqo, Ausangate and rainbow Mountain. Also for some of the classic or traditional tours in Cusco region. So travelers hiking one of the trails above must consider the following things.

Recommended list to pack for a trek:

  • Original passport and (a valid University student card if applicable)
  • We recommend you bringing a day-pack with essential things
  • Down sleeping bag minus 8ºC
  • A good trekking shoes with good ankle support, specially for wet season
  • Trekking poles: you can use it on the trails. But not at Machu Picchu
  • Warm clothes, layers for variable temperature especially at night
  • Thermal underwear can be worn in the sleeping bag or in cold weather conditions
  • Gloves or mittens, scarf , wool socks, woolen hat for cold nights
  • T-shirts and trekking pants that zip off to short pants for comfort
  • Flash light, head torch, extra batteries and Camera
  • Binoculars (totally optional)
  • Wear a hat with a broad visor to keep the sun off your face
  • Sunblock, and sunglasses
  • Personal medical kit, insect repellent
  • Rain Gear: a good rain jacket, rain poncho is ideal for wet season
  • Toiletries, toilet paper, small towel
  • 2 liter water bottle, disposable plastic bottles are possible to take in Machu picchu site
  • Water purifying tablets (optional) since we provide boiled water
  • Bathing clothes for the hot springs for hikers of Salkantay and Lares trek. Also people staying one night in Aguas Calientes.
  • Extra money for drinks & tips, souvenirs etc. In soles or American dollars.
  • Emergency money at least 500 extra soles for treks longer the 3 days. Hiking on the mountains you will not have any chance to get cash.
  • If you are not doing a trekking tour. Then you do not need to bring some of the things from this recommended list.

Suggested list to pack for Cusco Tours:

If you are not hiking any of the trails to Machu Picchu and you are just taking sightseeing tours around Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu site, we suggest you bringing the following things:

  • Original passport
  • A small day-pack
  • Change of warm and light clothes
  • A rain coat or poncho
  • Personal cleaning stuff
  • A good hiking shoes
  • gloves and lipstick
  • Sun-block and insect repellent
  • Personal medications
  • Sun-hat and woolen hat
  • little snacks as chocolate and cereal bars
  • Extra cash in Soles or USD
  • Baterry charger
